Last year L.A. County’s Eligibility Workers (EW) decided they had enough with the outrageous number of cases per EW and they mobilized to bring lasting changes and won an additional 200 plus EWs. Now comes the news of EW’s setting themselves for an even bigger victory– LA County CEO Employee Relations Department has agreed to coordinate a meeting between SEIU 721 members and DPSS officials in the next 45 days to settle the caseload crisis once and for all.

On Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Board of Supervisors approved unit contracts for all SEIU Local 721 Los Angeles County bargaining unit members.
SEIU Local 721 and the County of Los Angeles have reached a Tentative Agreement on a new three-year contract. Detailed tentative agreement summaries, including significant gains on bargaining unit specific issues, will be available soon. At as many worksites as possible, membership meetings will be held to review the tentative agreements prior to the ratification vote. More information on ratification coming very soon, stay tuned. LA County bargaining teams engaged in intense negotiations on Wednesday and Thursday of last week with Los Angeles County; although we made great strides in the right direction we still have a last push this week.
On Tuesday hundreds of LA County members descended on the Hall of Administration to demand a fair contract that respects our work.
In support of our fellow nurse, Miss Colorado, we nurses wear more than a stethoscope. We wear the concerns, welfare and well-being of our patients, community and profession. As LA county nurses, we are patients’ advocates; we take care of our vulnerable populations, uninsured and underinsured, underserved and private sector patients.
In our “VIEW” we provide vital services to our clients and to the community and are certainly not “just a nurse.”

As flu season approaches, The Partnership for Quality Care joined the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, Department of Public Health and healthcare workers represented by SEIU Local 721 to stress the importance of getting immunized against influenza.
On Labor Day hundreds of SEIU 721 members, families and community allies, marched in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara to celebrate all that is good and strong about being in a union. Other groups held picnics and rallies in celebration of the work we have achieved, and the challenges we have before us.
