Healthcare Professionals to Deliver ‘Pink Slip’ to the Huron Consultants Behind the Unnecessary Layoff Notices to Healthcare Professionals and Nurses; Huron Is Collecting Nearly $10 Million in Taxpayer Funds
Ventura, CA—Healthcare professionals will fight back against layoff notices that will jeopardize the care of patients who rely on Ventura County’s network of healthcare – including the general public, which depends on Ventura County’s system to function as a reliable, high-quality source of trauma care during emergencies and for 9-1-1 response.
The cuts to staff and services are being made at the insistence of Huron Consulting, a private firm that has been paid nearly $10 million in taxpayer funds to essentially recommend cuts to services that benefit taxpayers and the general public.
For years, frontline healthcare professionals have been sounding the alarm on the understaffing issues at our main hospitals in Ventura County, with workers stating that they are forced to do more than one job because vacant positions are often left vacant indefinitely. In fact, the County of Ventura had to ‘delete’ 137 vacant positions as part of their proposed layoff process. Healthcare professionals at the frontlines of day-to-day patient care warn that these proposed layoffs will definitely impact patient care, and that any claim to the contrary is a clear indication that these top-down decisions are being made without understanding the reality on the frontlines of public healthcare in Ventura County.
Public healthcare professionals insist that these layoffs are nothing more than a risky experiment proposed by an outside consulting firm, and point out the fact that there is no urgent budgetary constraint or reason for this drastic decision.
