A virtual delegation of SEIU 721 members traveled from SoCal to Arizona with a message for U.S. Senator Martha McSally: Vote YES on the HEROES Act!

Hundreds of SEIU 721 members amplified their voices by submitting videos of themselves telling Sen. McSally about their work and why securing federal funding is critical to their families and communities. Yesterday their videos were featured on a LARGE LED screen set up outside of the Arizona Senator’s office in Phoenix!

Our virtual delegation was hosted by frontline workers in Phoenix, who shared their stories and joined our call for Senator McSally to support a strong HEROES Act. Frontline workers from both California and Arizona shared how the federal funding would help with things like boosting staffing, providing Personal Protective Equipment, and avoiding catastrophic cuts to critical services.

Danyel Johnson, who works at the Superior Court in Riverside County, was one of the members featured in the virtual delegation and said it’s ti
me for McSally to act and “invest in frontline workers.”

“Our union members have worked and are still working through this pandemic,” she said in her video message to McSally. “It is not easy as we all are worried about health and safety, however we are essential workers doing our part to keep our country afloat during these unprecedented times. Now the very people who have been working are facing cuts, layoffs and furloughs.”

The event was live streamed on social media and covered by local media in Phoenix.  Together working people across state lines stood strong and are showing U.S. Senators that it’s time to bail out working people – not just big rich corporations!

Check out the video delegation that made it to Phoenix, AZ and stay tuned for more actions. We must continue to press our elected leaders for the funding needed for local cities and counties – and the working people on the frontlines of this pandemic.
