Conejo Recreation and Park Employees Vote for Agency Shop
On Wednesday March 14th, 2012 Conejo Recreation and Park employees wanted to increase their strength and voice and held a successful agency shop election.
Over 81% of employees who voted, voted for an agency shop agreement. Through an agency shop agreement our union will be stronger and more unified for our upcoming negotiations.
Santa Barbara Workers Share a Valentine’s Day Message
SEIU Local 721 Santa Barbara County workers have a message for the community and it’s about unrelenting love and services, despite recent salary cuts imposed by the Board of Supervisors. On Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2012, SEIU Local members will run a full page ad in the Santa Maria Times (see below) to reach out to the community.
Move to Privatize Simi Valley Library Blocked by Ventura County Court
A Ventura County judge temporarily blocked the City of Simi Valley from outsourcing its library services to a private company. SEIU Local 721 first filed the lawsuit in early January of 2012 after the City of Simi Valley improperly voted to withdraw from the Ventura County Library system and create its own municipal library.
Members Rally Against SB Board of Supervisors
Over 100 SEIU Local 721 members marched and at the Jan. 31 rally and news conference in front of the Betteravia Government Center in Santa Maria. Members marched to hold the Board of County accountable for its harmful impact on the community by imposing unfair terms and conditions on Santa Barbara County members.

Ventura County Members Present Findings on Workplace Bullying
Ventura Workers Partner with Arts Group to Shine Light on Workplace Bullying
On Aug. 31, SEIU 721 members worked with Arts for Action, a local community group, to create interactive works of art to interpet what worksite bullying looks and feels like.
SEIU 721 members launched the first of a series of worksite meetings to educate members about bullying in the workplace at Oxnard’s Health Services Agency at Vanguard. Members signed up to address the Board of Supervisors and take other actions to shed light on a recent grand jury report that revealed that workplace bullying was a major problem in Ventura County workplaces.
“I was happy to see so many Oxnard members participate in this event to create awareness about bullying.” I hope to see the same members at the Board Of Supervisor’s meeting on Sept. 27.”
