City of Oxnard Workers Available to Media Prior to Tuesday’s City Council Vote Regarding Proposed Cuts
Oxnard, CA— City of Oxnard frontline workers are coming out to say no to cuts that will eliminate or weaken vital cultural arts programs like the Carnegie Art Museum, the Performing Arts Center, the library in La Colonia and La Colonia Boxing Gym. These important programs serve the most vulnerable residents in our community.
For years, frontline city employees have been doing their share to shoulder the burden of financial mismanagement by the city and an astounding turnover rate at the executive level. In fact workers stepped up and offered to help find solutions to mitigate the cuts, but their ideas fell on deaf ears.
Frontline City employees like Associate Planner Juan Martinez, see these proposed cuts as another short-sighted way to dig out of a financial situation – one that puts all the burdens on workers and on the community:
“As a planner, I know one thing – failure to plan is a plan to fail. When you start working on the budget two months out, that is only perpetuating a cycle of financial mismanagement that puts our community at risk. I’m asking the council to stand up for Oxnard and protect frontline services, critical programs and good city jobs and take step back from this proposal so we can plan for the long term.”
