Participants are hopeful the hometown fundraiser will compel the community to help Rep. Knight raise the $20 billion California will lose now that Congress voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a plan to replace it.

Who:      SEIU Local 721 and Rep. Steve Knight

What:     ‘Yard Sale for Healthcare!’ at Rep. Steve Knight’s Palmdale Office

When:    Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Noon

Where:  1008 West Ave M-14, Palmdale, CA 93551

Repealing the Affordable Care Act without a plan to replace it will mean the end of healthcare coverage for 30 million Americans – five million from California. Without regular check-ups, preventative care and ongoing healthcare services, an estimated 36,000 men, women and children will die needlessly each year. Across America, up to 210,000 people will lose their jobs – 63,000 of them in the greater Los Angeles area since California will lose $20 billion in federal funding that the Golden State previously received through the Affordable Care Act. To compound matters, local taxpayers can expect to pay more now newly uninsured people will have no choice but to get healthcare at local Emergency Rooms – which is notoriously more expensive than regular managed care.

To demonstrate both a commitment to compassionate conservative principles and accountability to his constituents, Rep. Steve Knight will co-host a “Yard Sale for Healthcare!” directly outside his district office in Palmdale. Members of SEIU Local 721 will supply items for sale – many from workers who will end up on the unemployment line if Congress fails to replace the Affordable Care Act, which they voted to repeal on Thursday, January 12 at just after 1:30 a.m.
