Statement for Wed., Nov. 6, 2024: SEIU 721 Stands Firm – We Won’t Go Back

SEIU 721 President and Executive Director David Green issued the following statement regarding the election of the Trump/Vance ticket:

“We at SEIU 721 are profoundly disappointed to witness the return of Donald Trump to the highest office in the land. His first term as President was, without question or exaggeration, one of the most divisive and destructive in the history of our nation – and we do not look forward to a return to those dark times.

“Nevertheless, despite this unfortunate outcome, we remain undaunted and undeterred. Our siblings in the Labor Movement, and among progressive causes generally, have stood up to Trump before and we will do it again. His raunchy rhetoric and bombastic threats do not intimidate us one bit.

“In fact, if he’s spoiling for a fight, he will find it with us – and we will not back down, ever. Indeed, in his first presidential term, Trump overestimated his appeal and underestimated our ability to mobilize effectively against him. We are very confident that we can do it again, especially given how little his words and behavior have changed since he last disgraced the Office of the Presidency.

“Make no mistake – his victory is ephemeral. Trump can make all the threats he wants but we promise him this: We will fight against his toxic policies with everything we’ve got. We won’t go back.”
