The following statement was released today by SEIU 721 Executive Director and President David Green on how LA County’s Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) Strike has been put on hold:
“SEIU 721 has put on hold our ULP strike previously scheduled for Thurs., Oct. 10 now that LA County has come back to the bargaining table to officially resume contract negotiations with our union. This is exactly what we hoped to achieve when more than 1,200 of our LA County members rallied directly outside the Hall of Administration on Tues., Sept. 24. Our union sent a clear message: We were ready to go on a ULP strike. LA County heard us. Our demonstration prompted Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, Chair of the Board, to reach out to our union requesting an emergency meeting. We met with her and LA County CEO Fesia Davenport, bringing our members’ concerns about the more than 20 Unfair Labor Practice charges directly to management’s doorstep. It was a productive meeting – one where we noticed and appreciated a welcome change in tone from county administrators. Now our union has secured a landmark agreement that protects LA County members and gets us back to the bargaining table earlier than expected. Next month, our union’s Bargaining Teams will return to negotiations with LA County management, and make no mistake – we will secure a strong contract that reflects respect for our members and the work we do.”
