MOU 4 Maintenance Laborers and RCTO II’s Won Big

Our Tentative Agreement (TA) includes our largest general salary increase in Coalition of LA City Unions history — a pensionable 22% increase over a 5-year span.

When it’s all said and done, it’s going to be a 24.2% compounded increase.

In 2024, we can expect 3% increases in April and October. The reality is that we won a better contract than LAPD officers.

Thanks to our organizing and action, here’s the city’s new salary schedule for MOU 4 Maintenance Laborers and Refuse Collection Truck Operator II

In addition to the new salary schedule, we also won these changes:

MINIMUM WAGE ADJUSTMENTS

Our fast-tracking of every city worker to a $25/hr. minimum wage brings a bottom step increase for Maintenance Laborers and other classifications.

BONUSES

Every classification in Sanitation will now be eligible for the homeless encampment/

illegal dumping bonus of 5.5% (Salary Note F-24).

After earning the bonus for five years, the bonus increases to 11%! We also clarified that

the Department can’t arbitrarily call an “illegal dump” a “bulky item pick-up” to avoid paying the bonus – which was a problem we were also seeking to fix through negotiations.

SICK LEAVE PAYOUT

Sick Leave Payout also increases to 100% – for both annual payouts and upon retirement.

If you max out, then you could see TWICE the bonus each year (about 4% bonus total)! AND this will apply for the 2023 calendar year – so a second payout check should come after Council approval.

PERSONAL LEAVE

It was a difficult sacrifice with massive vacancies, but we can make the change with Personal Leave a benefit for our members – as we kept five days of leave. Two days are converted to floating holidays (while this needs management approval, we’re ready to fight unjustified denials). The remaining 24 hours of personal leave is NOW eligible for payout if unused at the end of each calendar year (previously you lost it at the end of the year) – equivalent up to a 1% bonus if PL time is unused.

AND MORE!

AND we keep opportunities open to deal with any continuing problems through the life of the MOU with work groups including:

  • Vacancy Rates
  • Salary Step Reform
  • DWP Equity

YOUR BARGAINING TEAM STRONGLY RECOMMENDS A YES VOTE TO APPROVE THIS HISTORIC AGREEMENT.
