Social Workers Will Sound the Alarm on Increasingly Dangerous Conditions for Youth in County’s Care with Caseloads as High as 22 Cases Per Social Worker, Far Higher Than the Accepted Rate of 15 to Ensure Child Safety
LOS ANGELES – Hundreds of social workers fed up with perpetually increasing caseloads that jeopardize the safety of thousands of children in LA County’s care will demand change at the office of the LA County Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
As a massive rally and demonstration by social workers will take place outside the Hall of Administration, where social workers will provide official testimony insisting that the CEO take immediate action to lower caseloads now.
Currently, caseloads are as high as 22 per social worker, well above the accepted rate of 15 per social worker to ensure child safety. This urgent matter continues to be punted by county management, a violation of the spirit of child welfare services as well as the social workers union contract between SEIU 721 and LA County.
