This year’s annual member assembly and picnic served to celebrate the successful efforts of all our hard working families across southern California.
From pushing Los Angeles City leaders to hold Wall Street accountable for gouging the City with excessive fees to organizing per diem workers in Riverside to kicking the Ventura pension killing ballot measure to the curb, SEIU 721 members have made our union stronger than ever.
In addition to celebrating the many contributions of working families to our communities, we set our sights on the future. We committed ourselves to continue the Fight for 15 and to Fix LA for the common good of all working families through our City and County contract negotiations.
Joining our call to action was Congresswoman Judy Chu who spoke about the importance of ensuring a livable wage for all working individuals. The day hit a high note when Jibri Range, a fast food worker called on everyone present to step up the fight and make sure that every working parent like himself is able to meet their children’s basic needs and provide them with a better future.
With the well-being of all families front and center, our picnic also ensured everyone enjoyed good food and lots of sunshine. Children with freshly painted faces jumped in the moon bounce, families took part in exciting sack races and old friends reconnected while new friendships sparked.
It was truly a beautiful autumn day at Whittier Narrows Regional Park. The day glowed, but our members shined the brightest.
