You can help create pathways out of poverty for our community in Los Angeles County.United Way and SEIU 721 have partnered to kick off a one-month long campaign this June to help break the cycle of poverty for our most vulnerable neighbors–families, children, veterans and the homeless.
In Los Angeles County:
- 1 in 5 of our children lives in poverty.
- 58,423 people are homeless, and 6,955 are of them are veterans.
- Only 71% of students graduate in L.A. County; it’s 61% at LAUSD.
Funds raised during this campaign will help United Way continue its important work to support proven systems that help students graduate, permanently house our homeless neighbors, and ensure individuals, especially veterans, get quality jobs.
One such individual, Marva Lewis, was a navy veteran who returned home from serving our country only to face injury, job loss and eventually homelessness. Because of generous gifts made by community leaders like you, she has a roof over her head and no longer “feels like a walking ghost,” or “a piece of garbage.”
No one deserves to suffer from any form of poverty. Be a hero and donate $10. You may text SEIU to 20222, call 1-866-366-7335 or visit http://seiu.unitedwayla.org to give. Your money is not a gift; it is an investment in our city, neighborhood and future because United Way and SEIU 721 are united for a better Los Angeles.
All members who donate will enter to win 2 tickets to Budweiser’s Made in America Festival* August 30-31 in downtown’s Grand Park.
