On May 15, SEIU 721 members from Tri-Counties traveled to Sacramento to stand up for the California healthcare safety net and to urge elected officials to expand Medi-Cal. The Tri-Counties members met members from other SEIU locals during the day-long rally and lobbying day.
“The bus tour and rally were important because healthcare reform has stalled in California. We need the Governor and the legislature to do the right thing and expand affordable healthcare across the state.”
-Ted “Bear” Perez, SEIU 721 Executive Board Member & Ventura County Mental Health Associate
After arriving in Sacramento, members sent a message to Governor Brown and the legislature to support the healthcare safety net in three ways:
- There were activity booths where members took photos of themselves spelling out messages, which were printed out and hand-delivered to the Governor’s office.
- Hundreds of members also went to the “Social Media Tent” to fill out an online petition telling the legislature to move forward on healthcare. >
