On May 1, thousands showed up for the annual march for immigration reform and International Workers’ Day in downtown Los Angeles. SEIU 721 members, allies, and communities groups took to the streets as immigration reform is being discussed in the United States Senate.
The march included members of social justice organizations from across Southern California who are pushing for a clear path to citizenship for the more than 11 million undocumented workers in the United States.
Banners with butterflies waved across the sky, representing the beauty of migration. Placards that read “Keeping Families Together” reminded viewers that immigration is about more than a legal status–it’s about family and community.
