As you may have heard, the City’s City Administrative Officer (CAO) is projecting an almost $1 billion budget shortfall for 2025-2026.
The CAO is advising for the City Council to take on cost-cutting measures, including the ill-advised recommendation to slash the city’s workforce.
To be clear, we do not agree with the CAO’s public stance.
We have not been contacted by the city to discuss these issues or make any concessions.
In crisis after crisis this decade, including the pandemic and recent wildfires, our members have been on the frontline keeping vital services running.
We believe that the city needs to take a hard look at reining in spending on private outside contractors and other wasteful spending.
We will fight back against any measure to balance the city budget off our members backs.
We vow to continue standing union strong and push our city leaders to protect city jobs and services.
Please stay tuned for updates.
