It’s been 10 days since the wildfires destroyed entire neighborhoods in Altadena, Sylmar and Pacific Palisades. Our hearts continue to be with our union siblings and neighbors who’ve suffered insurmountable losses.
We’re starting to get a clearer picture of the impact of the Eaton Fire, Palisades Fire, and the Hurst Fire on our members.
We estimate that more than 3,500 members live in affected areas, and to date, we know of more than 90 members who have lost their homes. Unfortunately, we know that number will continue to rise.
As we’ve communicated before, we’re working around the clock connecting our impacted members to our disaster relief efforts.
Our fellow SEIU 721 members and staff are hard at work delivering care packages across Southern California. These packages include personal hygiene products, toilet paper, boxes of food, and in many cases, bottled water.
We encourage you to visit and bookmark our actively updated SEIU Local 721 Disaster Relief Resources webpage. If you know of a member that’s been impacted, please share the link with them.
In the meantime, please stay safe and follow the instructions of our local authorities.
In Solidarity,
David Green
SEIU 721 President and Executive Director
