SEIU 721 is a dynamic and fast-growing labor organization recognized as one of the largest and strongest unions
of publicly funded employees in the nation. We represent over 100,000 workers and have over 200 staff employees
covering 6 counties in Southern California; including Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties and
numerous cities in these regions. Our members provide critical services within the public and private sectors in

workplace, but at the political level as well. Through grassroots organizing, identifying, and developing leaders
within our Union, we make sure that our members’ voices are heard, and that the government is held accountable
to ensuring efficiency, advocating for those in need, and improving access to services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Collective Bargaining Coordinator is responsible for leading specific collective bargaining activities as well as
supervising and mentoring staff within the Collective Bargaining Department.
The Collective Bargaining Coordinator reports to the Director of Collective Bargaining and Research. This person
will help manage the day-to day operations of the Department as well as lead and assist in addressing collective
bargaining needs. This may include oversight of collective bargaining efforts and significant collaboration with other
Departments within the Union including Field, Research, Organizing, and the leadership team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INLCUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
• Supervise, develop, and lead teams in areas of collective bargaining.
• Serve as chief negotiator for multiple collective bargaining agreements, including developing and leading negotiations teams.
• Refine internal systems for tracking, documenting, and communicating changes to employment statutes which relate to wages, benefits, and terms and conditions of employment.
• Maintain expertise in the relevant laws and processes related to collective bargaining.
• Work with other Local 721 departments in supporting campaigns and strategy through ample and actionable Bargaining efforts.
• Plan and coordinate multiple contract campaigns’ Bargaining needs including supporting ratification, strike and field action and other projects simultaneously in a high-pressure environment requiring rapid adjustment to changing priorities and strategies.
• Initiate and lead projects in coordination with the Director of Collective Bargaining and Research.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong understanding of public sector functions, including social service and safety net programs, as well as other local public services.
• Experience in leading staff or contract bargaining campaigns.
• Knowledge of labor law, especially as it relates to collective bargaining, unfair labor practices, mediation, fact-finding, and arbitration.
• Advanced computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work independently under limited direction and balance conflicting demands and guide the work of other staff members.
• Experience participating in a leadership team
• Proven ability to work with a diverse group of people, including union members, union staff and leaders, elected officials, and other community and issue stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of formats and for different purposes, as required by specific
campaigns.
• Commitment to social justice and building power for workers
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• 3+ years of related experience in bargaining and negotiations.
• Basic knowledge of workers’ rights.
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends, and participate in all union-wide activities.
• Willingness to travel and work in different locations for determined periods of time.
• You must possess a valid California driver’s license, auto insurance, and an automobile for business use
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
• Annual Salary Range is between $130,000.00 – $135,000.00
• Fully paid benefits package including medical, dental, vision and a generous life insurance.
