SEIU 721 President and Executive Director David Green issued the following statement after the SEIU International union endorsed Kamala Harris for President:
“I wish to thank President Joe Biden both for the incredible leadership he has displayed while in office and for his most recent decision as it pertains to the upcoming presidential election.
“Biden’s legacy as a pro-worker, pro-union president is undeniable and will not be forgotten by our members. His work on the federal level is especially noteworthy, as he successfully defended the rights of employees in the federal government to remain union workers. This is a fact too often glossed over – but it is one we will not forget in the Labor Movement, especially as Donald Trump threatens to fight against workers’ right to organize and collectively bargain should he return to the Oval Office.
“Make no mistake – we in the Labor Movement will fight against Trump’s return with everything we’ve got. And we’re confident that we’ll win, especially now that President Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed him. Vice President Harris is from California, and we know her very well as a woman of great integrity and intelligence.
“As the Attorney General of California, Harris confronted the big banks that swindled working families out of their homes. She fought for a humane immigration system. She was always on the side of workers. And, unlike Donald Trump, Vice President Harris approaches her duties with a seriousness and professionalism that is required of the job.
“Our nation is deeply divided at a time in our history when we are facing incredible challenges both at home and abroad. We need a leader who can bridge these divides while simultaneously standing up for the most vulnerable among us. Vice President Harris is that leader and we at SEIU are proud to endorse her candidacy for President of the United States.”
