Food, Fun, and Friendship Abound at SEIU 721 Assembly and Family Fun Day

Families are the heartbeat of our Union. We know that SEIU 721 is strong because the working families we represent are strong. Which is why we deeply cherish our annual Assembly and Family Fun Day, a joyous event that strengthens and revitalizes our community by uniting our beloved Union families around good food and family fun. This year was no exception.

Hundreds of SEIU 721 families joined us at the Whittier Narrows on Saturday, November 11th, to celebrate the spirit of community and kinship that binds us together as one big Union family. The smell of freshly grilled hamburgers and hotdogs wafted through the park as children played carnival games and tumbled through inflatable mazes and slides. When not collecting shirts, pins, water bottles, etc. from our many sponsor booths and caucus tables, adults were busy meeting fellow members and enjoying delicious food and other goodies.

One of the highlights of the day was the raffle drawing, which boasted prizes ranging from flat screen TVs and tablets to $500 Disney gift cards and more. We’re happy to know our members left the Assembly and Family Fun Day with new friends, full stomachs, and a trunk full of swag, prizes, and other gifts. It’s the least our hard working, dedicated members deserve.

Our members and their families weren’t the only ones there. Numerous elected officials including LA County Supervisors Hilda Solis (1st District) and Kathryn Barger (5th District), Miguel Santiago, California State Assemblyman (53rd District), and Mark Gonzalez, Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party,  joined the festivities to meet and talk with members.

Of all the fun, games, food, and prizes, perhaps the best part of the day was the chance for connection and relationship-building. There is, after all, no better gift than that of community.
