LA COUNTY PROBATION DEPARTMENT MEMBERS: We have important news to report from our monthly Joint Labor Management (JLM) meeting.
COVID-19 Update
Client meetings
Our union noted that Deputy Probation Officers (DPOs) are holding client meetings outside the office but still bringing paperwork directly back into the office. The Probation Department responded that the rate of COVID-19 transmission from paperwork is very low and that it was an operational need for DPOs to meet with clients outside the office.
We agreed that face masks and social distancing mandates must be enforced. And if an employee tests positive for COVID-19, the Probation Department will use guidelines set by the Department of Public Health (DPH) to conduct a COVID-19 contact tracing process that determines which employees to notify and what areas to deep-clean.
Vaccine roll-out
Probation Department employees are on Tier B for the vaccine but LA County isn’t at the Tier IB phase yet. Once LA County is at Tier 1B, the Probation Department will start offering the vaccine to employees who have direct contact with the public. Then the rest of us in Tier 1B will get it.
In the meantime, don’t let down your guard. Wear your face mask, socially distance and wash your hands frequently.
CLERICAL TRAINING MANUAL
We reiterated our support for a Clerical Training Manual. That way, all Probation Department clerical procedures will be standardized across all Probation Department offices.
Head Clerks are gathering monthly and assembling the manual. The goal for completion is November 2021.

Our union stewards meet with Probation Department management representatives on the fourth Thursday of each month. Our next JLM meeting is on Thurs., Feb. 25, 2021.
