This notice is to inform SEIU Local 721 members that 30 delegate seats must be filled by formal nomination and election process in accordance with the SEIU Local 721 Bylaws, the SEIU Constitution, and federal law.
The 30 seats are divided proportionally by region based on the number of full dues-paying members in each unit (see the # of seats per region).
Nominations will be accepted by petition, which means members who are interested in being nominated must submit at least 10 signatures from dues-paying members in their specific region only.
The names and signatures will be verified and if at least 10 signatures are valid, then the nominee’s name will be added to the ballot as a candidate. If a bargaining unit is less than 15 people, then 50% of the bargaining unit is required to sign the petition. If more than one bargaining unit is grouped together, then signatures from any of those units can be submitted.
The deadline to return nomination petition is 5 pm on March 17, 2016 to the SEIU Local 721 office in your region, or by fax at 213- 380-8040.
Candidate Eligibility Requirements:
Please note that to be an eligible candidate, you must be a member in good standing for two continuous years preceding nominations, cannot be convicted of a disqualifying crime, and cannot be a current elected officer of the Local.
TrueBallot, an independent third-party agency, will initiate the election process by sending ballots and instructions to dues-paying members by April 1, 2016. TrueBallot will count the votes on April 18, 2016.
Delegates are responsible to use their own time to attend the convention. SEIU Local 721 will only be responsible for airfare, accommodations (a hotel room to be shared with another delegate), and a daily per diem.
