On Labor Day hundreds of SEIU 721 members, families and community allies, marched in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara to celebrate all that is good and strong about being in a union. Other groups held picnics and rallies in celebration of the work we have achieved, and the challenges we have before us.
In Santa Maria, SEIU 721 families joined other unions in a solidarity picnic. In the city of Santa Barbara – Raise the Wage Santa Barbara was kicked off.
“To all the workers who marched today who don’t have a union yet, but are actively organizing and acting like a union…your fight is our fight! We are standing right there with you brothers and sisters. Today we celebrate the accomplishments of the past, but renew our commitment to transform the lives of ALL workers and their families.” – Bob Schoonover, SEIU 721 President
Through the power of worker’s voices we are leading the way in protecting good middle class jobs at the bargaining table as well as lifting the communities we serve. We have succeeded in pushing both LA City and LA County to raise the minimum wage to $15 and to restore critical neighborhood services in the City of Angels.
SEIU 721 members continue to lead the fight against poverty wages, Wall Street greed, and cuts to vital community services — and we are scoring some major victories.
We will continue to step up throughout Southern California so that together we can protect the well-being of workers and families.
