Congratulations to Los Angeles City Councilmember Jose Huizar on his landslide election victory and congratulations to the people of LA on selecting a leader who will fight for good middle class jobs and to restore the vital services our city needs to thrive. His victory is also a victory for the city’s working families and communities.
SEIU 721 members worked tirelessly on behalf of Councilmember Huizar’s campaign, putting in over 1,800 volunteer hours in just a handful of weeks. LA’s working families took note of Huizar’s strong support of our call on city leaders to raise our minimum wage to $15 and restore the services we need to repair our streets and sidewalks, clean trash-strewn alleyways, and keep our waterways clean and free of sewage–as well as hold Wall Street and big banks accountable for paying their fair share for city services.
Councilmember Huizar has demonstrated unique vision and courage in taking a bold stand on behalf of our city’s suffering communities and SEIU 721 looks forward to continuing to work side-by-side with him as we realize a new vision for Los Angeles–building a city where our children are safe, our residents have good paying middle-class jobs with benefits, our streets are clean, and all of our communities thrive.
