SEIU Local 721 Latino Caucus leaders from Ventura, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties met in Ventura on Nov. 15, 2014 to celebrate recent victories and review upcoming plans to help fight for changes in our communities.

This month’s SEIU 721 Local-wide Latino Caucus meeting went up to the Tri-Counties region. Latino Caucus leaders heard from elected officials throughout the region. This turned out to be a collective celebration since many of the officials were recently elected or re-lected to office.Tri-Counties Eboard member Grace Sepulveda and Regional Council Chair, Rosa Castro organized and hosted the event on behalf of our region. SEIU 721 President Bob Schoonover was on hand to welcome members and guests, and Tri-Counties Eboard member Shannon Abramovitch participated.

Congresswoman Julia Brownley spoke with Latino Caucus members, still fresh from learning that she had won re-election. Other elected officials and honored guests in attendance included Assemblyman Das Williams and representative Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios, Ventura Mayor Cherly Heitmann, Santa Barbara County Board Supervisor Salud Carbajal, State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and representative Carla Castilla, Deputy Mayor of Ventura Erik Nasarenko, City of Oxnard Mayor Pro-Tem Carmen Ramirez, Santa Barbara City Mayor Pro-Tem Cathy Murillo and City of Santa Paula Council members Ginger Gherardi and John Procter.
The SEIU Local 721 Tri-Counties Latino Caucus meets the third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Ventura office.
