SEIU 721 Members Earn a Living Wage at St. John’s

On March 13, St. John’s Well Child and Family Center and SEIU 721 announced a groundbreaking collective bargaining agreement that will provide a living wage of $15 an hour to front-line healthcare workers providing care in some of South Los Angeles’ poorest communities.  Council Member Curren Price Jr. and Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas also attended the event to show their support and share their hope that more workers in Los Angles start making a living wage.

Where a bank doesn’t have to be a pay day loan and check cashing store front. Now, our hope is that this vision and message spreads across the city, county, state and finally the entire nation.”

“I have seen how St John’s has been growing in success opening new clinics every year.I am glad that St John’s passes that success to us in the form of a living wage for all of its workers.”

People all over the county are calling for a living wage. The St. John’s agreement to provide a living wage comes as the Los Angeles City Council considers steps that would require big hotels to pay $15.37 an hour. The agreement between St. John’s and SEIU 721 is a ray of hope for Los Angeles, one of the leading low-wage capitals of our nation. This commitment to provide a $15 an hour living wage shows that when employers and employees work together, we can lift up our communities. St. John’s is an employer that is leading by example – it’s possible to deliver quality healthcare and provide quality jobs.
