On Feb. 20, SEIU 721 members at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey held a Black History Month program and celebration.
With the theme “Black History Matters,” the event featured soul food,
music, dancing and poetry. A bold visual exhibit covering the
contribution of African Americans to art, culture, science and politics
throughout the years decorated the building where it was held. More than
100 people attended.
Speakers included SEIU 721 Vice President Linda Dent, Dr. Victor Oranusi, Dr. Sylvia Shaw and Rancho Los Amigos CEO Jorge Orozco, who supported the event from its inception.
“It was a beautiful event put on by our members. The entertainment was excellent, and I was really proud to see how hard everyone worked to make it happen. Bringing people together to celebrate the past while we talk about the struggles we face today is an important thing to do.”
