AB-252,a bill which tried to confine the title of Social Worker to only those with Master’s in Social Work, was rejected.
AB-252 didn’t address the problems that social workers have: a lack of resources, adequate staffing, and having to follow an overstuffed policy manual.
AB-252 would have downgraded the professional status of current social workers, even if it only applied to future social workers.
“This won’t be the last time we see a bill like AB-252 in policy committees at the state level. We have to stay vigilant, we have to stay strong and we have to fight against this kind of narrow vision of social work. We have to remember: When we fight, we win!” said David Green, CSW and Executive Board Treasurer.
