Hospital Housekeepers Say,’Keep our shifts’

Ventura County Medical Center management is planning to put Housekeepers on a disruptive rotating schedule, mixing hospitals and shifts.
The VCMC SEIU 721 Housekeeping Committee, SEIU Local 721, Advocate Pam Briscoe and Worksite Organizer, Gabby Suciu met with VCMC hospital administrators on Friday, August 30, to express concerns regarding three month schedule rotations of VCMC and Santa Paula Housekeepers.

“I am committed to continuing this fight for my coworkers, our patients and the community.”
Mike Lopez, VCMC Housekeeper
What are the Challenges?
  • Radical schedule changes are not a practical solution to improving the workplace
  • Disrupting schedules and shifts of all Housekeepers can be harmful to patient care

What do we want?
• Keep workers on current shifts• Accountability through process improvements• A follow-up meeting with management to further address our concerns and to help improve the workplace.

  1. Besides rotating shifts are unhealthy for the workers and this was proved long ago, This seems to mostly discriminate against workers with children who couldn’t get rotating childcare.
