“This disease touches everyone and the walk is a way to support the Diabetes Association. I do this for my family, my union and my community. All three things I love.” -Jennie Pauli, Riverside Police Records Specialist III, Riverside City Chapter 3rd VP and 721 Regional Council member.
Over 45 Riverside City and County SEIU 721 members participated in the Step Out – Walk to Stop Diabetes in Riverside, Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011.
Sporting their purple SEIU 721 tee shirts, members and their families, co-workers and even pets, joined over 2,000 walkers in the 5k walk under a mild morning sun that originated at White Park, snaked through the downtown streets to Fairmount Park and back.
A combined amount of $5,514 was donated by SEIU 721 and Inland Area members to help stop diabetes. The American Diabetes Association is on track to meet their fundraising goal of $160,000 from the Riverside event. If anyone would like to make a contribution, they are still accepting donations and you can still sponsor any SEIU 721 walker by visiting www.diabetes.org/stepoutriverside and clicking on “Sponsor a Walker” and search for a SEIU team or individual walker.
