Bargaining Update: Speaking Out on the Need for Parity

IE_Acct_Tech_Group_500x241.jpgThe SEIU 721 bargaining team invited accounting technicians to provide personal testimony on the affects of working out of class at bargaining Sept. 27. Members told first hand stories of the professional quality of their work and the need for parity studies to ensure pay scales remain competitive enough to retain skilled workers.
The SEIU team has discovered the county has failed to conduct or act on parity studies, other than for management, on any classification for five years.

“The county needs to look at parity issues for all SEIU 721 members. We are the glue that keeps our departments together.”
-Maida Herd, Account Tech I, RSO
Many positions such as social service assistants, medical social workers and accounting technicians, are significantly behind in competitive salary rates. The SEIU 721 bargaining team will continue to fight for pay equity for all classifications.
