Sheriff Department RNs Win Retroactive Pay for Past RN Experience

Together RN I and Nurse Practitioners Win Big and Thousands of Dollars in their Pockets

RN 1s and Nurse Practitioners at the Sheriff’s Department won a decisive victory for nurses who were placed at the first step of the RN salary grid despite their RN experience.

Nurses in the affected class won a one-time initial step salary placement adjustment that is retroactive back to nurses’ date of hire and includes retro pay at the higher level.

Sheer determination and dedication amongst nurses along with the leadership of Alice Burston, a Staff Nurse and steward at Twin Towers Correctional Facility, led to the huge and swift victory. SEIU 721 and LASD signed two settlement agreements Tuesday, April 29 and affected nurses who are part of the group grievance should be receiving notification from the county immediately.

The agreement with the department includes:

A one-time initial step salary placement adjustment back to the date of hire based on any previously uncredited RN experience as described in your union contract.

Payment of overtime, bonuses and contributions to any benefit plan will be recalculated based on the higher salary.

In order to receive your new salary you will have until the end of June to submit proof of past employment.  You will receive complete details in the mail.
Congratulations to everyone!
