REGISTERED NURSES PUSH DHS INTO MAKING OVER 1,500 NEW RN II – III PROMOTIONS
Our fight continues for fairness and equity in L.A. County’s reclassification of 4,000 Registered Nurses
RN Negotiating Committee DHS Members met October 2, 2007 with DHS Chief Nursing Officer Vivian Branchick, DHS Assistant Personnel Officer Catherine O’Brien, and Robinetta Mack of CEO Employee Relations.
Here is the Report:
Of all DHS RNs reclassified, 50% will be RN I, 40% will be RN-II, and 10% will be RN-III.
The original RN-II and RN-III promotional examination processes were found by DHR (Department of Human Resources) to be not in compliance with Civil Service Rules.
NEW RN-II and RN-III promotional examination and selection processes are underway. NEW ELIGIBLE LISTS are being promulgated. The goal is to increase the number of promotions.
All RN’s who applied for RN-II and/or RN-III positions continue to be candidates for promotion on the new eligible lists so there is no need to reapply. All existing applications are being rescored using correct Civil Service Rules guidelines. The 50% “Ratings of Record” and 50% “Appraisal of Promotability (“AP”) formula will be still be used.
The difference is that NEW Appraisals of Promotability have been completed, with a higher standard of documentation for “A” ratings, to reduce favoritism.
NEW LETTERS TO RNs WITH ‘NEW’ EXAMINATION SCORES AND BAND PLACEMENTS ARE BEING SENT TO APPLICANTS, INDIVIDUAL SCORES MAY OR MAY NOT BE THE SAME AS THE LAST EXAM. Remember: many more bands will be “reachable” now that there are over 1,500 additional promotional items available.
